Clean Air Award

As part of the Beacon Centre's ongoing commitment to provide a smoke free environment for its customers, the Centre has applied for the Clean Air Award. This is an extension of the Centre's No- Smoking policy which has been in operation for seven years now. The Clean Air award is given to employers where there is proof of smoking being restricted to external designated areas.

To achieve the award, we have moved the cigarette butt bins away from the entrance doors but still under shelter for the smokers. Customers and staff who do not smoke are now able to enter the Centre without encountering clouds of smoke.

As an enhancement to our no smoking policy, we also offer support for Centre staff wishing to give up smoking. NHS advice leaflets are readily available and we have appointed an Environmental Team Member and Security Officer as ambassadors of the scheme, who will provide advice and guidance to staff who wish to kick the habit once and for all. The ambassadors used to smoke but managed to give it up successfully and are therefore in the best position to relate their experiences and how they were successful. Another two Environmental Team Members are currently attempting to give up smoking and we shall offer support and monitor their progress in their quest.

Centre Management wish to express their grateful thanks to Centre staff and customers who are supporting this initiative.
